So that PC just doesn’t run like the day you bought it? It takes forever to start up and forever to load a program not to mention programs constantly crash and the internet moves like molasses. Lets first lay down the fact that PC’s are like cars, they do require up keep to maintain healthy and fast performance. So what can you do to avoid computer repair and extend the life of that computer? Follow the suggestions below and we guarantee you will extend the life of your computer and remain happy with your computers performance.
Anti-Virus Software
As soon as you get your PC, the next best thing you can do is purchase anti-virus software. While we off MalwareBytes with our PC Total Care Service which protects your from viruses and malware, you may decide to go with an alternate. Decide what best suites you. While AVG, AdAware, and others are free to the public, I can personally tell you they do not protect as well as paid anti-virus choices. Next to MalwareBytes, my next recommendation is Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. I like this software because it is easy for the end user to manage and does a very decent job of protecting while also offering Zone Alarms robust Firewall Protection.
Defrag! Defrag! Defrag!
I cannot stress this enough, Defragging your PC is a mandatory task that I suggest takes place once a month. While your PC comes with free defragging software, I suggest the free alternative Defraggler. A computer becomes fragmented when data is stored throughout the hard drive disk space instead of organized all together which slows down your PC causing longer load times. Running a De-fragmentation of your hard drive can be the difference between night and day.
Cleaning Your Startup Items
All too often when cleaning someone’s PC, we at Support Nerds find that they have a heavy amount of start-up items which slows down the time the PC takes to load because it has to load all of those items on boot. Now if you are not familiar with MSCONFIG and using that tool, I suggest that you connect to one of the Certified U.S. Based Experts at Support Nerds and allow them to assist you in tuning up your PC.
Windows Update
I see it all too often when customers do not have the latest service pack. It is important to always stay connected to Windows for updates as they release updates that are important for your operating system on a daily basis. Neglecting to perform service updates can result in slow running systems, security vulnerabilities and much more.

All 4 points are valid and very true when keeping your computer running in optimal conditions. For those reading this article you have started the search to take control over your computer. One other thing that I also noticed that can have your computer running slowr at times are the programs that are running in the back ground. I always advise people to also go beyong the typical lazy approach of dealing with it and to start to learn what your computer is about. It isnt rocket science and its amazing what you can learn using a combination of different resources. Google terms you don’t know. Blogs and forums like this one provided are great for simple tips and even very complicated techy tricks. There are also free online videos that teach you visualy on youtube. Be Your Own IT is one of 3 major sites that do the same and can teach you step by step for free so that you take control over the machine that should be like a friend and not a frustration.

I don’t usually post on blogs but had to on yours. You have a very easy to read writing style. A lot of people don’t have that touch, they just drone on and on in the most boring way. But not you – thanks! I don’t have time to read all the information here right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Google, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see the latest news.

These are some great tips, I think that people don’t update and defrag enough. Everyone understands the effectiveness of an anti-virus software, but defragmentation of your computer can be very helpful.
