So Your Outlook is Corrupted?

One of the most common issues with Microsoft Exchange Outlook is the inability to open your email client at all, due to what is known as a PST utility file error message. Do not automatically assume that this is because of a problem with your local computer. PST corruptions happen on an Exchange server generally—and not on individual workstations. However, that doesn’t mean that this problem is any less severe; it is actually more severe because it is likely affecting many users. It needs to be promptly remedied; if not, you and your associates risk losing all contacts, settings, e-mails and calendars.

Without the Outlook.pst file it’s very simple: Exchange Outlook will cease to work. What’s worse is that a corrupted PST file on an Exchange server may be caused by a virus, and is capable of propagating itself throughout your network. Furthermore, if your PST utility has been corrupted by an outage or internal network flaw, it is strongly advised that you have the problem analyzed and repaired by a professional.
We are a company who can typically repair this problem in just 30 minutes. Here are several things that could indicate a corrupt PST utility file:

If you’ve recently had a power outage, and one of your computers was affected (that Outlook up-and-running), this could be the problem.

If Outlook is loading up very slowly.

A corrupted network device could also be the culprit. Since the PST resides on a server, the problem can easily spread through your network via NIC’s, routers, hubs, connections and so forth.

If Outlook gives you an error message saying that it is “unable to open/display folder”.

If you see a “ISTORX32.DLL error when you initiate Outlook.

If and when you initiate the Detect and Repair option and you get a “1931” error, this means that essential patches (security updates) cannot get through—the result is that your whole server becomes vulnerable.

If you receive a 0×80040119 error.

Those are some of the common indicators that people experience when the PST is corrupted. Support Nerds employs professional with several years of experience analyzing, diagnosing and fixing Microsoft and servers and workstations. Support Nerds can ordinarily diagnose and fully repair an Outlook.pst file corruption, as well as most other technical server problems in 30-45 minutes or less.

Support Nerds places certified technicians that have the very latest software tools at their disposal. Our standard prices to fix things such as corrupted PST files and repair any damaged hardware or software are also very competitive; compare us with anyone. We work with individual consumers, small-to-medium companies and large enterprise businesses. We will work on your problem for as long as it takes, and your total satisfaction is our goal.

Computer Repair – Get the Viruses Out Of Your System!

Computer viruses are not one-size-fits-all. They range from minor, relatively harmless pranks to major, file-eating monstrosities that will bring your computer to its knees. Therefore, whether big or small, harmful or not, viruses are nothing to play around with. The chances are pretty good your computer has a virus right now—and you don’t even know it! If your system has a virus right now, it’s best that you get it taken care of as soon as possible. Virus removal can be a quick, painless process and is an essential component of any computer repair.

Let’s first make the distinction between computer viruses and other types of malware such as spyware and adware. Viruses have the ability to copy themselves repeatedly and spread throughout a network, whereas spyware and adware don’t have that capability. Spyware and adware are commonly referred to as “viruses” and using the term this way is a misnomer. While they do harm to your system, such programs are not viruses. That notwithstanding, it doesn’t hurt to clean these annoying pests from your hard drive and registry as well. Computer repair experts can check if a system has viruses, adware and spyware on it.

Virus removal can be a long, painstaking process—especially if the virus has embedded itself deep in the program registry of your computer or attaches itself to an important procedure that needs to run in order for your computer to work properly. Therefore, some vigilance is needed if you plan on keeping your computer virus-free and navigate the murky waters of cyberspace. Simple rules like installing an anti-virus program, checking every e-mail attachment you receive (and who sent you the attachment), and performing routine checks of your hard drive and registry will keep your computer in top shape.

Computer repair is a necessary evil. Nobody wants to do it, but so many things are done via computer now that it’s almost irresponsible not to. To avoid having to put your computer in the shop, take the small steps now to keep your computer healthy. Adware and spyware are nagging annoyances that are hard to get rid of, and an actual computer virus could render your system useless—or worse yet, spread through a network and do the same thing to others. Virus removal often depends on the severity of the problem and the complexity of the virus in question, but many viruses can be disposed of with the anti-virus programs already on the market. For the really tough ones, take your system to an expert.

Know How to Spot Malicious Scareware

A growing threat on the internet today is that of the rogue anti-virus infection, also known as “scareware”. This classification is used for any program that pretends to be an anti-virus utility, but is actually just a very noisy adware infection. It is often also accompanied by one or more Trojan infections, widely known for opening computer security holes and allowing all sorts of other undesirables in. XP Antivirus 2010 (shown below) is one such fraud.

Learn how to remove antivirus 2010

To make things worse, these programs are always designed to look very close to a legitimate antivirus program, or else part of Microsoft Windows itself. These threats tend to slip right by automated protection tools such as firewalls and virus scanners, and then sit on your hard drive entirely un-accosted by nearly all legitimate virus scanners on the market. (In the meanwhile spamming you with annoying ads, all of which try and convince you to hand over credit card information. –Don’t do it!) The pressing question is of course, how can I know when an anti-virus is one of these frauds, and not a legitimate software?

Top 3 Signs You have a Malicious Fake Anti-Virus

In my experience, there are three main signs to look for. First off, the way it got onto your computer. This kind of program often appears of its own accord without you installing it, or is downloaded and installed to your computer after claiming “You are infected!” on an otherwise-unrelated-to-security website. Often times you may encounter a popup ad pretending to be a Windows file folder, and it has an animation “scanning for threats”. It will come up with a number of bogus entries, and then tell you to install their software and fix the problems you don’t actually have. Example advertisement pictured below.

Screen shot of a fake anti-virus.

Secondly, fraudulent anti-virus programs are VERY LOUD and have a frantic sense of immediacy intended to incite panic. They will tell you that you are critically, extremely, computer-about-to-explode infected, and that it is urgent, URGENT you give them your credit card information right away so that they can save you. There will be popups, that when closed result in additional popups, sometimes 2 or 3 times. These popups will return every minute or so, and interrupt whatever you are doing to demand your attention –often filling the whole screen and appearing on top of all other windows. A legitimate anti-virus by comparison, will pop up just one notification, nowhere near as frequently, and will also give you a “stop telling me about this” sort of option.

Third and last, the threats found by fraudulent anti-virus programs are entirely fabrications –none of the threats problems by these infections actually exist on your computer. If you have another scanner you know to be legitimate installed, and it isn’t finding anything, chances are the noisy, pushy program shouting that you have 100 infections is a fraud.

There are hundreds of these fake programs on the market now, but some of the more common ones I’ve seen as of lately include Antispyware 2010, Spyware Protect 2009, Total Security, and XP Antivirus 2010.

Support Nerds was recently interviewed on WBKO about the issues faced by many small businesses in light of the McAfee Bug. Kyle Springer explained how many small businesses across the nation are left dealing with the McAfee bug on their own.

View the Story on WBKO’s website: http://www.wbko.com/home/headlines/91877854.html

or Read Below:

Your anti-virus software may have glitched your computer and you may not even know it.

On Wednesday, a faulty program by the McAfee software caused PC problems all across the country, including Kentucky.

But a least one computer expert says for some, the problem may last a few more days.

“You would just be sitting here and your internet would disappear, your PC would slow down and you wouldn’t know why,” explained Kyle Springer, CEO for Support Nerds, of Bowling Green.

It’s a problem that’s kept Springer busy since Wednesday.

“It’s just been ramping up since,” he said. “It will probably go through the weekend because some people probably still don’t know what the problem is with their PC.”

Springer is the head of a Bowling Green company called Support Nerds.

He says his company has taken 30 to 40 calls a day regarding a glitch stemming from the anti-virus software, McAfee.

“Somewhere in their programming they had messed up and completed what’s called a ‘false positive,’ where it actually deleted a Windows file and disables your internet,” he said.

The glitch struck government offices, schools and even some hospitals across the country.

And while according to McAfee, the problem only affected corporate customers, Springer says it’s been the small businesses that continue to suffer.

“They don’t have an IT department, so when they have these issues it’s just as if they’re at home,” he said. “They don’t have an IT person to go to and they don’t know what the problem is, so business is down and they’re losing money.”

Other computer repair shops we spoke to say they haven’t seen many problems from the glitch.

They add that they do tell their customers just to avoid McAfee software all together because of problems.

McAfee has posted fixes to the problem on its website.
